Voting results for the Columbia Council seat in the Village of Harper's Choice were counted this morning at their village's annual meeting, conducted virtually. Below are the initial voting results.
Alan Klein - 109
Ashley Vaughan - 93
Deborah Warner - 18
In order for the election to be finalized, 10% of eligible voters (those who own or rent in Harper's Choice) are required to have submitted a ballot. Not enough votes were cast to meet this threshold; as only 287 votes of the 358 votes necessary were received. Accordingly, Ms. Vaughan motioned to extend voting through May 12 in accordance with the election bylaws of the village. This means that mail ballots and electronic votes will continue to count through May 12. Additionally, residents may vote on the May 12 meeting if they have not already cast their votes.
Deborah Warner has dropped from the race, so just Klein and Vaughan remain.
Please read the candidate spotlight and Q&A on Ashley Vaughan to learn more about her candidacy. I urge all members of Harper's Choice to engage in this election and consider casting your vote for Ashley, who will bring a fresh savvy perspective to the Columbia Council.
Brynn Conover and Rebecca Beall will take seats on the Harper's Choice Village Board, as Eileen Brewer dropped out of the race following the initial count.
