Dok Khao Thai Eatery to Open Wednesday August 25 in Merriweather District

Dok Khao Thai Eatery has placed a sign on their door and updated their website to announce that the new restaurant in Merriweather District in Downtown Columbia will be soft-opening this Wednesday, August 25th.

Dok Khao Thai Eatery will add more energy to the Merriweather District. Located along Color Burst Park, the new restaurant will be the first in Merriweather District that overlooks the park, which I'm excited about because it should allow parents to keep an eye on their kids playing within eyeshot as they finish up a meal in the fenced in patio.

This will be the second location of Dok Khao Thai Eatery. The original is located in Woodbridge, Virginia. The website for the Woodbridge location describes itself as a "Local Thai Cuisine for everyone - every dish is crafty made to order using high quality ingredients including locally made fresh noodles, chef's home grown Thai herbs, & Rare-Finds Asian vegetables." The menu includes "Deliciously addictive Street Food & Noodles, Sense of Thai craft cocktails, and homemade cakes and an Asian Inspired Dessert Bar . At Dok Khao Thai Eatery, we brought to you the breeze of a Bangkok Night Market and the taste of real Thai street food with a variety of Thai small plates, healthy salads, & hearty noodle soups."

When I swung by yesterday, I noticed a stack of printed menus sitting on a table inside along the windows. While I could only see a portion of the menu, when comparing what I saw to the online menu of the Woodbridge restaurant, it looks as if the menu of our location will be nearly identical. Which is definitely a good thing, as that menu looks stellar.

Dok Khao Thai Eatery will join Clove & Cardamom and The Charmery in Merriweather District. Coming soon is Yoga Six (which is currently being built out next to Dok Khao) and of course, Busboy and Poets. Busboys and Poets is slated to open in October, as announced earlier this week when County Executive Calvin Ball and Busboy and Poets owner Andy Shallal toured the new location. The video tour posted on Facebook is well worth the look for those who want to see the inside of our soon to open Busboys and Poets.

For more coverage of Dok Khao Thai Eatery, check out the preview article I wrote way back in February 2020 when the restaurant was first announced, or the article I posted earlier this summer when the signage went up.

This will be welcome. Used to work for the US State Department, meaning I ate a considerable Thai food. To, I read and buy many books. Sherman Howell, Hobbit Glen
